Today I’m going to write about blog backlinks and specially how you can make them totally free. Generating traffic without backlinks isn’t a good idea.

What are backlinks and how may I profit from them?

First of all we’ll start with the definition of backlink. Backlinks are incoming links to your website. The amount of websites linking to your website affects to your position in Google. For example, if you’d make a post on your blog with the keyword “Karl Marx” (No, im not a communist), it most certainly would not appear in google for the keyword “Karl Marx”. The amount of backlinks to your site propably would’t be enough. I’m not an SEO expert and so I won’t talk on the other matters, that will put your site to top 1 in google, but the amount of backlinks is only one factor. However I’ve found it to be the most effective way to improve your sites pagerank and get you google traffic. By getting a lot of backlinks in your website, google bots find out how popular your website is and ranks you.

Be aware that it’s not only the amount of backlinks that count but the quality. A backlink in PR6 site would most definetely be more useful than in a PR1 site. There are also type of links that won’t count. Those are called “nofollow” links. Basically they have  an attribute in them, that makes search engines not consider them as links. Many blog commenting systems use the nofollow system. Some though not. Consider on “dofollow” links, which are the opposite.

How to actually build blog backlinks?
There are several ways, but the most easy way is something I call the “natural way”. Basicly build so good content that your readers will be fascinated about this content. In time they will start to link to your website. Be a god damnit good writer. That’ll give you tracebacks and backlinks. If you liked this post, backlink me for example.

Second way is tho snoop around and check forums and blogs with dofollow in you’re content area. These will increase your placement in google. Put your link to your signature, comment or where ever you can fit it.

Third way is social media. I’m not though an social media expert either, but I do generate a good deal of traffic from Facebook for example. Put your link as your homepage there, make updates in your profile containing your link, ask your friends to promote it. Create a group to your blog with the link etc.

Write articles and submit them to article websites like EzineArticles. Those will eventually generate you traffic and reputation. If you’re content is good, you’ll success.

Add your blog to Digg.com and similar services. Create posts expressing your sites content etc.

Go to webmaster forums and beg for help. I’ve found this to work. Actually I’m generating quite a nice amount of traffic for “asking help” with your blog or website. Create imaginary problems and let people help you with them, this could get you more traffic and in best cases active readers, which will comment.

Make friends. I’ve found the most best way to create backlinks to have friends of webmasters. Ask your friends to put you a link to their website. Sometimes they might do that without asking even.
